CGA Continues Its Neighborhood Holiday Tradition
Last Friday night, Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. (CGA) held its 7th Annual Columbia Waterfront District Tree Lighting at the Human Compass Garden (located at the intersection of Columbia Street and Sackett Street). Although a bit chilly, we were pleased that there was no rain (unlike last year) and kept warm by gathering around the fireplace.
There were free refreshments for attendees compliments of restaurants and businesses located in the Columbia Waterfront District, including: Ferdinando’s Focacceria, Red Apple, Jake’s Bar-B-Que, Cesar’s Garden Restaurant, Red Hook Liquors, Mazzat, MikNic, Nine Cakes, Margaret Palca Bakes, and Brooklyn Southern. Attendees were able to enjoy such treats as hot chocolate from MikNic, Christmas-themed sugar cookies from Margaret Palca Bakes, and red velvet mini-cupcakes from Nine Cakes while listening to the Dan Kurfirst Band perform jazz renditions of classic holiday songs.
Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez also stopped by to say a few words.
Of course, the biggest attraction for the children was Santa Claus!
Thanks to the generous donations from our annual Toy Drive and event sponsors (Apple Bank, Pok Pok NY, Dog Day Cyclery, Realty Collective, and H.L. Dynasty Real Estate Corp.), every child in attendance received a gift. Additional gifts are being donated to Visitation Church in Red Hook.
Thank you to House of Pizza & Calzone for donating the tree and real estate developer Marshall Sohne for donating electricity for the lights (on display at the Human Compass Garden until the new year so make sure to stop by!). See you all at CGA’s events next year!
