Our Biggest Christmas Tree Yet!
Last Friday night, CGA held its 8th Annual Columbia Waterfront District Tree Lighting at the Human Compass Garden (located at the intersection of Columbia Street and Sackett Street). Since it was a brisk evening, attendees kept warm by gathering around the renovated fireplace.
There were free refreshments for attendees compliments of restaurants and businesses located in the Columbia Waterfront District, including: Ferdinando’s Focacceria, Red Apple, Mazzat, MikNic, Orchard, Park Bagels, Brooklyn Union Cafe, Carroll Gardens Diner, Evergreen Liquor Store Inc., and President Food Corp. Attendees were able to enjoy delicacies such as spring rolls, chicken cigars, muffins, rice dishes, corn chowder, pasta, and hot chocolate while listening to a live band perform classic holiday songs.
State Assemblywoman Joan Millman stopped by to introduce and open the event. We will miss the Assemblywoman when she finishes her final term in office this month since she has been a longtime supporter of CGA.
Of course, the biggest attraction for the children was Santa Claus, who arrived in true New York City fashion on a FDNY truck courtesy of our local firehouse in Red Hook.
Thank you State Senator Daniel Squadron for attending our Tree Lighting as a parent with your son, Theo.
Thanks to the generous donations from our annual Toy Drive and event sponsors (Apple Bank, Dog Day Cyclery, Capital One, OgoSport, and TD Bank), every child in attendance received a gift from Santa. Additional toys have been donated to the Red Hook Lions, Visitation Church in Red Hook, and Red Hook West Tenant Association.
Thank you to the House of Pizza & Calzone for donating the tree and real estate developer Marshall Sohne for donating electricity for the lights (on every night at the Human Compass Garden until the new year so make sure to stop by!).
